When you need to take control of the direction people or vehicles are moving, plastic barricades can be extremely useful. These are relatively lightweight, easily maneuvered to allow them to be changed and moved accordingly, and are cost-effective as they can be applied time and time again for a lot of different projects. Plastic barricades can supply safety and order when and where it can be needed.

Plastic barricades can be found in many shapes and sizes based on the reason in which these are needed. Many of us have witnessed the big orange barrels that are used in construction zones. These are a type of barricade. In addition there are the tall, tiered orange and white striped barriers which are often used for road closings. You can also find interlocking plastic barricades which can be used to keep crowds on sidewalks or simply to keep unwanted guests out!

Numerous companies and agencies use barricades each and every day. Law enforcement agencies rely on them as a means to crowd or traffic control. Of course, construction companies use them for the protection of their employees and the surrounding community alike. Really, anyone serious about keeping people out maybe in, whichever the situation may be could have a use for barricades.

When safety is paramount, plastic barricades can come to save the day. Perhaps it will sound silly, but they can prevent chaos but providing direction to traffic or even a crowd. Can you imagine driving down the highway and not having those barricades separating the lanes of traffic inside a construction zone? Though those barricades are typically made from concrete to soak up the energy and impact of a collision, traffic cones serve exactly the same purpose.

Where will you see these plastic barricades? Chances are you'll see them not only in construction zones, but also when enjoying a concert, or at a major sporting event. Wherever safety is a concern and crowds are present, you can bet that there is plastic barricades around. Their orange color makes them plainly visible and they also might be adorned with a reflector or flashing light to ensure they are more visible in the evening.

Though many people find plastic barricades somewhat annoying (those orange construction barrels in many cases are not a welcomed sight), they are a necessary evil which help maintain law and order and also safety. A plastic barricade in the form of a saw horse can safeguard your automobile from a pothole in the road or stop you from slipping on a wet floor. They can help you avoid unseen dangers like sinkholes. Even though we may not prefer them they are utilized for our own protection and that's a very important thing!

As previously mentioned before plastic barrels are practical for the companies who make use of them. They are much lighter than their concrete counterparts so they can be adjusted and require a lesser amount of manpower to move about. Being plastic, they stand up well throughout stormy weather conditions and are more easily repaired or changed if they should become damaged.

So you see, plastic barricades help us maintain a civil, secure society. They are something to be appreciated, not annoyed with. Next time you come upon one of these barriers, be grateful that someone else is taking care of you!

For even the most organized craftsmen, it can be easy to lose or forget the length of your band saw blades. When the time comes around for the blade to be replaced, woodworkers often cringe at the thought of measuring these sharp-toothed giants. Fortunately though, with just a few quick and simple steps, a flat surface, a measuring tape and a marker, accurately measuring the length of your band saw blades is a surprisingly simple procedure.

First, you will need a flat surface that is at least as long as the estimated length of the band saw blade. For this procedure, it is easier if said flat surface is at table or workbench height, but, as this is not always possible, you may also use the floor, a driveway, sidewalk, or etc.

Once you have located your flat surface use a pencil or other marking instrument to indicate a starting point. Now, using a marker, clearly mark a starting point on the inside of the band saw blade as well. For this "starting point", I usually look for the weld line on the inside of the blade and boldly mark as my starting point. This avoids any "starting point" confusion later in the process.

Now, place the starting point mark on your band saw blade directly over the starting point mark on your flat surface and begin to roll the blade forward. Keep the blade rolling as straight as possible (using a guide or traced line if necessary) to ensure accuracy and continue rolling until you reach the starting point marked on the band saw blade. Stop there and mark the flat surface directly beneath the weld/starting point mark on the blade. The new mark represents the end or finishing point on the flat surface and also indicates the end of a complete revolution of the saw blade.

Set aside your saw blade and using a measuring tape measure the distance between the starting point and finishing point on the flat surface. This, as it is the distance of one complete revolution of the saw blade, will be the exact length of the band saw blade in question.

In order to get your vertical band saw working effectively for you, you should familiarise yourself with the various different band saw guides that are available.

You should also spend a little time understanding how to maintain them and keep them in tiptop shape. This will have a big impact on your blade performance and as such on your productivity.

Since a bandsaw guide can cost about $100 or so, you will be well rewarded if you look after yours, as you will not have to replace it as often as an uncared for guide in bad condition. There are many types of guides on the market today but it the main they are just variations of the ones I have listed below.

Sandwich Bandsaw Guide

These guides also go under the name of block guides and they hold the blade in place during the cutting. They are often used in sawmills and in situations where the need to produce volumes supersedes the requirement to save the blade.

Retrofit Roller Band Saw Guide.

This is basically a cross between two other types of guide, the Roller and the Bottom Control band saw guide. Under normal conditions the lower part of this guide has no contact with spinning blade. However if you hit a knot in the wood or some other type of bad spot, it will really come in to its own. It then prevents the saw from lurching into the timber and spoiling the cut, but after that it just sits there until the next time it is needed.

Grease Roller Guide.

This band saw guide has bearings that keep the blade straight as it passes between them. To prevent friction these bearings need to be free moving, hence the need for grease. So you must make sure that your guide can be greased. It is just like your automobile requires oil, otherwise over time the engine will seize and you will grind to a very expensive halt.

So as I said at the top, a little time spent maintaining your band saw will pay dividends down the line. It is always a good idea to refer to the manufacturers handbook for best advice on what steps to take and when.

And that by the way can go for any machinery you own.

When most people think of a saw, the first thing that most often comes to mind is some type of circular saw. Usually a hand held type that's used for cutting wood. The fact is though that over the course of the past handful of decades incredible advancements have been made in saws that can now cut just about anything you can put them to.

Through it all though, one thing that hasn't changed is the circular blade. This style of blade has two advantages that keep it from being rendered obsolete, and the first one is that all the teeth can be aligned in one direction because it spins in one direction. Also with the circular saw, maximum momentum can be achieved because it continually spins in one direction.

Even so, the standard circular diamond saw does come with its share of disadvantages that have led to the development of the ring saw. Those are that in spite of all the cutting being done on the outer edge, the sides of the standard flat round blade also have to pass through whatever is being cut. It causes excess friction, and wear. Still one more problem with a standard circular saw is that they can't turn. That is that they cut straight lines only.

So the ring saw is basically a saw that uses only the outer edge of a circular saw. That is that it is as if a person simply cut around a round saw blade to remove just the outer ring to eliminate the friction and allow for sharp turns, but at the same time keeping the momentum factor as well as all the teeth facing the same way. They're an excellent choice for cutting stone, and concrete.

Even so there are several types of ring saws that were designed to accommodate any number of different cutting situations, but one thing that they all have in common is that only an outer ring spins, and does the cutting. For instance, one very popular type of ring saw uses a very thin spinning diamond studded ring that functions in much the same way as a standard jig saw does. It has a table to hold the stock that can be turned, as with a jig saw.

Still yet another stationary table style ring saw functions just like a standard chop saw. The stock to be cut is set on the table and the ring blade is then lowered down into it, in the exact same way as you might cut a block of wood with a chop saw, or a mitre saw. The difference here though, is that because there is no flat blade, but rather just the ring, stones aren't scratched, or affected by friction.

Now both of the above listed ring saws are electric powered and rather light, compared to larger petrol powered ring saws that are used primarily on commercial job sites for cutting concrete. Now because these heavier saws are used to cut larger stock and are hand held, the ring blade on them is supported by an inner circular plate with a groove that it rides in.

Since circular saws are the portable version of a table saw, they are not meant to be fixed to a table. However, the portability can be a disadvantage if you are trying to make precision cuts such as miters or other angles. To help you make more accurate cuts, you can build a circular saw table in your own shop.

Step 1

Gather your materials which include a 3/4" thick medium density overlay (MDO) in a 36"X16" sheet, a 36"X8 1/2" piece, a 36"X1" piece, and two 36"X1 1/2 " pieces, a pencil, ruler, jigsaw, eight strips of 1"X2" wood, nails, hammer, drill, 1/4" and 1/2" drill bits, screws, circular saw, 1/2" dowel, speed square, and 1/4" carriage bolt.

Step 2

Mark the midpoint 3/4" in from the edge on the long side of the 36"X16" MDO.

Step 3

Using the ruler, mark a radius from this midpoint on that front edge. Next, draw a straight line 10 inches from and parallel to the back edge.

Step 4

To cut out the table that you just marked, use the jigsaw to cut down the 10" line, around the radius, and down the 10" line on the other side. You now have the shape of the table.

Step 5

Flipping the table to its back, nail six strips of the 1"X2" wood to all of the straight edges as the support for the table.

Step 6

Go back to the original midpoint mark on the topside and drill a 1/2" hole in which the dowel will be placed to serve as the pivot for the arm.

Step 7

Down from the hole on this topside, attach two more 1"X2" strips 10 inches long to serve as the fence for the guide.

Step 8

Take the two pieces of MDO that are 36"X1 1/2" and cut a 45-degree angle off of each end. With the angles facing inward, screw these two pieces onto the ends of the 36"X8 1/2" piece of MDO. This makes the carriage with spacers.

Step 9

Screw the 36"X1 1/2" MDO to the edge of the 36"X4" MDO at a 90-degree angle to create a guide lip. Attach this assembly to the support blocks of the carriage with screws. To make the opposite side of the guide, screw the 36"X2" MDO to the other side of the carriage. The circular saw's blade should pass through the gap as it follows the guide lip, but you may need to adjust the gap width for your particular saw.

Step 10

Now, with the saw against the guide lip and the blade in the gap, fix an opposite lip to keep the saw straight as it passing through the carriage by screwing on a 36"X1" strip of MDO on the opposite side.

Step 11

Flip this carriage over and measure down 7 inches from the top edge. Mark the midpoint of the width at this point and drill a 1/2" hole for the dowel.

Step 12

Removing the upper part of the carriage, place the base under the table and tap the 1/2" dowel through both the table and carriage, not allowing the dowel to stick out past the carriage blocks. Then, reattach the upper part of the carriage.

Step 13

Slide the carriage arm as far right as possible. Putting the speed square between the arm and the fence at a 45-degree angle, drill a 1/4" hole through the upper assembly and tabletop to secure the arm with a carriage bolt. Do the same at the 90-degree and 45-degree left angle to make repeated angle cuts.

Your circular saw table is ready to use. Place the wood to be cut against the fence. Line up the arm to the angle that you want. Put the circular saw in the guide arm with a depth set so that you will only cut 1/8" into the table. Make your cut. You can now make accurate angle cuts time after time with your circular saw table.

Since circular saws are the portable version of a table saw, they are not meant to be fixed to a table.
In this article I want to share how to get rid of acne for real. After many years of suffering from severe acne I tried lots of different treatments from Accutane and antibiotics, to dozens of topical cleansers and creams. To be honest none of these had any long lasting effect on my skin in terms of clearing up my acne for longer than a few weeks.

It wasn't until I started to look into natural causes of acne and natural cures that I began to get some stable long term results in clearing up my skin. But even then there was a lot of wasted time, effort and money trying things that didn't work.

An example of this is a program quite well known on the internet called Acne Free in 3 Days. In this program it teaches how the cause of acne is due to toxins in the colon. It further teaches that by doing a cleanse called the 3 day apple diet, consisting of eating nothing but apples for 3 days, you will clean out the colon and your skin clears up with it.

I tried this and while the results were great and my skin did clear up for a few days, my acne came back. The program taught that you had to do the 3 day diet regularly to stay clear. This wasn't an option for me due to losing weight on it and being slim naturally, as I was concerned I would lose too much weight and be too thin to keep doing this program. It's also pretty tiring doing a 3 day apple fast as it gives you no energy to live normally or actively during the fast.

So I went on to finding out more about acne and discovered there was a secret root cause of acne which turned out to be a specific kind of hormonal imbalance. By balancing these hormones naturally I saw my acne go from severe to completely clear in just a matter of days.

One of the things suggested was to avoid certain foods that cause hormonal imbalance. One of these is vegetable oil. These are used as cooking oils sometimes and as an ingredient in some foods like junk foods (think cookies and potato chips), as well as pre-made meals.

By using butter to cook with instead of vegetable oils like sunflower oil, and by being careful to avoid choosing foods with lots of vegetable oil in it as an ingredient by checking the ingredients label, I saw a dramatic clearing up of my skin like nothing before. You too can experience clear skin by using this information and other ways to balance hormones leaving your acne with zero chance of surviving.

Any professional who wants to do the best work needs the best tools to do it. For the finish carpenter who wants his work to stand above the competition, the Makita LS1216L sliding compound miter saw just might be the best choice for a job site saw.

The LS1216L is one of Makita's impressive new generation of sliding compound miter saws. It comes with a long list of state-of-the-art features for ease of use, versatility, increased cutting capacity and power.

Start with the capacity: With its retractable rear guard and the triple gear drive system that puts motor housing higher than on most other miter saws, the Makita LS1216L Sliding Compound Miter Saw will handle 8" crown molding and up to 6-1/2" baseboard, nested vertically.

It has 5-1/2" tall adjustable sliding fences for not only supporting tall stock, but also for more precise miter and bevel cuts. The upper portion of the fences slide outward to give you clearance for bevel cuts, while the lower portion slides inward to stabilize and support the material better.

The four rail slide system gives you rigidity and accuracy in your cuts all the way out to 15" at 90° and 10-1/2" at 45°. These round rails ride on six ball bearings for smooth, solid and accurate sliding action.

The vertical vise/clamp is double-jointed to give you more reach (and versatility) when clamping your material. And the vise can be mounted on either side.

The list of features making this saw easy to use in equally impressive. First of all, you can miter 0º to 52º left and 0º to 60º right with positive stops at 0º, 15º, 22.5º, 31.6º and 45º, both left and right. And the miter lock is an easy "one-touch" for quick, easy and accurate adjustments.

The LS1216L can perform bevel cuts anywhere from 0º to 45º, both left and right, with positive stops at 0º, 22.5º, 33.9º and 45º in either direction. The dual handle bevel lock is easily accessible with front AND top facing scales for increased precision in adjustments.

The laser guide is also well thought out, with its own switch so you can turn it on and set up your cut without the blade turning. And it has micro-adjustments for precise settings, right or left of blade cutting.

The replaceable stainless steel miter scale is easy to read and the blade guard is clear for better visibility. And the large, easy to grip, ergonomically designed horizontal D-handle is rubberized for more comfort and has an extra-large trigger switch.

Then there's the power: A 15 amp electronically controlled motor that won't bog down and will maintain constant speed under load.

For a big saw, the 12" Makita LS1216L is surprisingly compact, thanks in part to the staged slide mechanism; the two pairs of support rails add up to give you the full slide to cut that 15" crosscut. And at 52 pounds, it's truly portable.

In the area of versatility, the LS1216L doesn't fall short, either. This sliding compound miter saw, unlike some of the high quality saws on the market, will take any 12" blade with a standard 1" bore. Which means you can use it to cut almost any material, from the softest woods to plastics to non-ferrous metals, just by changing the blade.

Then there’s the power: A 15 amp electronically controlled motor that won’t bog down and will maintain constant speed under load.

For a big saw, the 12″ Makita LS1216L is surprisingly compact, thanks in part to the staged slide mechanism; the two pairs of support rails add up to give you the full slide to cut that 15″ crosscut. And at 52 pounds, it’s truly portable.

In the area of versatility, the LS1216L doesn’t fall short, either. This sliding compound miter saw, unlike some of the high quality saws on the market, will take any 12″ blade with a standard 1″ bore. Which means you can use it to cut almost any material, from the softest woods to plastics to non-ferrous metals, just by changing the blade.

Nearly every construction project involves some form of cutting concrete or core boring. While cutting concrete may seem fairly simple and straightforward, in actual practice there are several considerations to keep in mind to have a safe and successful concrete cutting or boring project.

Fist, you must know that concrete dust is potentially damaging to the lung sinuses and eyes. Concrete dust also becomes corrosive and abrasive and may damage surrounding finish.

Dust control becomes an important consideration when cutting concrete either with a saw or a drill or core boring bit. The two most common dust control methods are wet cutting where the dust is collected in the cooling water and pneumatic devices that pull the dust away in an air stream.

When using a diamond cutting blade or other abrasive disk cutting device such as concrete saw, the water also serves to lubricate and cool the cutting tools. Consideration must me made to handle the spillage of cooling water on to the surface being cut. Drainage must be provided or a vacuum system like a wet vac can be used to control the spread of the cooling water.

When using electric powered tools, adequate grounding, insulation and appropriate ground fault protection must be provided. Standing in a puddle of water while operating and electric tool can be fatal if proper protections are not in place.

An extra precaution must be added when using core drilling machine. Many of these machines rely on suction to keep the bas in place during the drilling operation. The friction of the base suctioned against the floor provides the resistance to rotation while drilling.

Two competing factors come in to play during the lock down operation. The slicker the floor, the better the suction seal will be. However, there will be less resistance to rotation due to friction from the slick floor. Especially if the concrete is wet. Also, while a rough floor may provide more friction, the roughness will not allow a strong vacuum seal against the floor.

In either case the vacuum seal is not completely reliable and may fail during the drilling operation. The operator must be keenly aware of the possibility that the machine base my rotate violently without warning. The operator must keep his body out of the possible rotation path of the machine bas at all times during a core drilling operation.

A more reliable method of securing the machine is to set a simple concrete anchor through the base in addition to the vacuum seal. Most machines have a provision for such an anchor and the small hole required for the anchor is easily repaired in the concrete floor.

When making any kind of cut in concrete be it a straight line cut with a concrete saw or making a round hole with a core drill, you must also consider what is hidden in the concrete.

Not only will the concrete contain re bar and rocks that can snag the cutting tool, but often plumbing lines and electrical conduit are often buried in the concrete. And they will likely not be exactly where the drawings show them to be.

Before any concrete cutting operation take care to locate as precisely as possible any pipes or conduit that may be buried in the concrete.

A cutting blade will slice through a conduit with ease often shorting the wires together on the blade. However, care must be taken that the operator does not become the ground path instead of the conduit or other wires. If possible, de energize any power lines that may be in the vicinity of the cutting or drilling operation.

Concrete cutting requires sharp tools, quality equipment in good repair, a good supply of cooling water and a skilled operator. Operating concrete cutting equipment can be simple and safe, but the operator must be familiar with the potential hazards and know all the functions of the equipment he is operating.

Concrete cutting saws and core drills have a wide variety of uses from cutting concrete and masonry to drilling holes for core samples. Maintaining these tools is critical, so here are some ways to keep your tools in the best condition:

o Know what you are doing or hire someone that does. Harder materials, a risk of flying debris, and more complex tools make concrete cutting something best done by skilled professionals. If you don't have a skilled operator available, hire a subcontractor who knows what they are doing. Your job will be finished quicker and with much better results.

o Speed matters. Concrete cutting saw blades differ from many other saw blades because the diamonds embedded on the blade file into the concrete. Saws with traditional blades require more torque to cut through materials with the jagged edge, but concrete saws rely more on speed. This speed, combined with the surface of the blade results in a smoother, sharper cut.

However, saw blades and drill bits of any kind are typically labeled with a maximum rpm. This is because the materials used to produce these parts can only tolerate so much friction, heat and stress. Don't exceed these recommended levels or you risk damage to the blade or bit, the tool itself -- as well as physical harm to you and your workers.

o Use the right blade for the job. Dry cutting blades are often used for decorative cutting. These blades perform best when used for intermittent cutting of shallow grooves, and they are intended for handheld saws with low horsepower.

Wet cutting blades are typically used for large walk-behind saws. These blades are used to cut joints in flatwork. Water is used to cool the blade so that it is less likely to break or warp. It is possible to use a dry-cutting blade with water, don't use a wet-cutting blade dry.

Finally, use common sense when working with a concrete cutting saw or any other tools. Watch for frayed power cords, clean your tools after each use and put them in the appropriate casing. By following these tips, you can maximize the life - and value of your concrete cutting tools.
